News outlets have been taking reports from viewers about Internet and phone service interruptions for much of the morning. For many in the area, the outage has also affected their ability to receive local television broadcasts. Because different local TV stations have different network providers, viewers unable to see their usual channel are able to see other channels in the area. Viewers with inexpensive antenna systems are able to receive all local broadcasts over-the-air (OTA).
Access to OTA radio services, including satellite, are unaffected, though the radio conglomerates' apps and "smart home" systems' access to music, news, and other content are also affected.
Reports have been presented by various news outlets that sources in network engineering report that AT&T systems are able to work with one another but not with other networks such as Charter Communications except for some mobile services. Official comments have indicated only that "network engineers are addressing the issues with their partners and vendors."
More detailed discussion is taking place on social media platforms, pointing to difficulties with Internet Exchange Points.
